Having Trouble Finding Your Favorite College Football Jersey?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

College football jerseys are the perfect answer for fans who want to show spirit, enthusiasm, support and loyalty for their favorite college football team. Football is a very popular sport, one that dominates the sports industry. Most colleges have football teams that work and play hard to excel at their favorite hobby: football. Teams, fans and family members and friends of team members and fans all love to show their pride and spirit by wearing football jerseys that represent the team's colors and numbers. Millions of fans all over the world love the idea of showing their support for their favorite college team by wearing college football jerseys and college sweatshirts.

While the cost of a high quality football jersey may be more than you want to pay, don't forget you are paying for the quality of materials and printing. Make sure you are getting what you pay for and make sure they are authentic replica quality and not some off brand knock off. Also, many manufacturers and retailers that make and sell football jerseys will designate a portion of the sales to be directed directly to the team themselves. So the next time you are eyeballing the price tag and are somewhat reluctant to jump for the purchase, remember that a few of the dollars you spend may go to directly benefit your favorite football team. The nice thing about college football jerseys and college sweatshirts is that they do not discriminate against size. It is very easy to find football jerseys for infants, babies, toddlers, children, and adults of all shapes and all sizes. Some companies even carry specialty college football jerseys for women. These are cut differently to accommodate the female form in a complementing and flattering manner, and may even feature pink and other female-friendly colors. The jerseys that are made for babies and children usually use more breathable materials, so to avoid chafing and rubbing against sensitive skin and areas. Another nice thing about college football jerseys is that they are perfect for any season. In the warm months, push sleeves up to allow fresh air to circulate around your body. In the winter, pair your jersey with a turtleneck for adequate warmth.

College football jerseys and College sweatshirts are available for purchase directly from most college stores. Teams themselves might sell jerseys and other apparel as a way of fundraising for their teams. Also, the internet carries many different jerseys for various teams and leagues all over the United States and even the world, so it's quite possible that you'll find the jersey you are looking for there.

Kim Green shares her insight regarding the finding and purchase of authentic replica College football jerseys and genuine College Sports Apparel.

College Football Futility Rankings - Week 4 - When Losers Fail

Image : http://www.flickr.com

September 17, 2007

When a loser fails, does that make it a win? Not always, but this week finds the two top seeds - Duke and Iowa State - failing to meet expectations by winning their games. This is why you play 'em.

Week 3 action brought a number of curious outcomes. In a significant milestone, Duke planted an 'L' in somebody else's backyard for a change by introducing Northwestern's Wildycats to the bottom of the loser's barrel. And after pulling off the unthinkable by losing to both Kent State and Northern Iowa, Iowa State's Cyclones put all their eggs into their field goal team's basket to beat real Iowa 15-13, without scoring a touchdown.

Michigan threw a wet towel on Ohio State's delirium by failing to lose to Notre Dame. Now the South Benders take sole possession of national attention focused on their winless season. The Irish lost convincingly to a team starting a quarterback that had never played a down and who couldn't - without a fake ID - buy a beer. Giving up 31 straight first half points had plenty of the ND student body getting out their fake IDs and hitting I-90 for downtown Chicago before the Michigan band took the field. Owning up to the now-real prospect of a significantly longer losing streak, the Irish fans are gathering their courage - liquid and otherwise, to look in the outhouse of their 2007 season. A 0-3 record cannot be ignored, so the Irish enter the futility top ten this week.

The Louisville Cardinals also learned a bit about what it was like to be Murray State in Week 1, by handing the University of Kentucky a win. It was Kentucky's first win over a top ranked opponent since disco was king. Kentucky snuck through the early season with wins over Kent State and Eastern Kentucky to sneak up on and beat the Cardinals 40-24 in a defensive battle.

Trying to sneak up on people is a strategy Nebraska employs. The Huskers spend the early season beating up on smaller schools and then ambushing the Big Boys when it counts. Unknown inside Nebraskaland, the Big Red are considered to be one of the Big Boys themselves and can't sneak up on anybody. Accordingly, the Cornhuskers found themselves ambushed at home 49-31 to #1 USC. 21 straight USC points in the 3rd quarter sealed the deal.

#11 UCLA took a trip to the forgotten time zone to take on Utah and was thoroughly snuffed by the Utes 44-6. The UCLAns just couldn't figure out how to set their watches for the kick off time and thought they needed their passports to get to Utah. Coming into the game, the Utes racked up losses to Oregon State and Air Force. They needed to play UCLA to get well.

And after weeks and even years of throwing themselves on the Futility Sword of Self Sacrifice, Troy University scored a big 41-23 win over a reasonably talented Oklahoma State team. Some of the historic blowouts endured by the Trojans include a 56-0 pasting by Nebraska in 2006 as well as kicking off 2007 with a 46-26 loss to Arkansas and a 59-31 shellacking by Florida. The Trojans hung in there and kept scheduling games against good schools and - at last - came out with a solid win. So congrats to Troy! This is what makes the games worth watching.

Watching last week's losers take the field brought some interesting outcomes and scrambled the top ten of football futility, bringing us a new top tier of failures. When schools like Vanderbilt start scoring conference wins, things really get confusing, so hang in there.

1. Syracuse

The wind inside the Carrier Dome was causing trouble for the Illinois kicker, as he nearly whiffed on the second half kickoff, netting about four yards. This placed the ball as far as the 29 and led to a Syracuse field goal. Unfortunately for the Orange, they were already behind 17-0. Counting on the opposing kicker to hit the top of the ball to improve your field position is a difficult way to run up points.

If Syracuse can figure out how to create wind inside their Carrier Dome, they should be able to come up with a way to score touchdowns. The Orange now sport a 0-3 record heading into week 4 with a game against Louisville. The Orange better figure out how to make the wind blow the ball right back in the Card's face if they are to win this one.

2. Army

The Mules lost to Wake Forrest this week as expected. The Deacons gave their offense the day off, allowing special teams and defense to score the points. Army went down 21-10 in this one to extend their record to 1-2. Army better begin setting expectations for this weekend as the Knights take on a ranked BC Eagles squad who is on a 3-0 roll after knocking off the G Tech Wrecks.

3. Utah State

In the Ben Dover Memorial Game of Week 3, the Utah State Aggies put up a tough fight against the University of Oklahoma before being subdued 54-3. The Aggies threw everything they had at the Sooners, but the Sooner second and third strings ran off 38 points in the first 30 minutes. It was touch and go for the Sooners after that, but they hung on for a 51 point margin of victory. Hang on to your ticket stubs from this one, folks. They will be worth something someday - like for, well... never mind.

4. San Jose State

Another new addition to the top ten of the worst, San Jose State jumped ahead of several previously ranked schools by virtue of its stellar 0-3 record. The Spartans have a shot this week though, against newly ranked Utah State. This is the rotten game of the week, as the 0-3 Spartans bring their experience of losing to AZ State, KState and Stanford on the line against Utah State.

5. North Carolina

The Tar Heels had a positively Nebraskaesque (without USC) schedule set up to get their football program on its feet. Unlike the Huskers, North Carolina went out and let the VA Cadavaliers clip 'em 22-20 at home. The lucky Heels now take their show on the road to South Florida, though, so they may have a shot at a road win. Should South Florida knock 'em off in the steam of south Florida, look for the Heels to begin a run at number one.

6. NC State

The Wolfpack may have just seen its best game of September. The next weeks bring ranked opponents, so NCState better be enjoying its win over Wofford. The 'Pack scheduled this game in the middle of September so that season ticket holders would have to buy tickets as part of their ACC package. This is solid business planning. Perhaps the business majors should be running the football program as the Wolfpack now heads into the meat of the ACC Schedule.

7. Iowa State

The Cyclones threw a wrench into their drive for number one by stealing a victory over Real Iowa on the strength of five field goals. A win is a win, but to put up enough points without scoring a touchdown is still boring. This may have been the strategy as the Hawkeyes yawned themselves to sleep enough to let I-State kick a 4th quarter field goal to win. Up next for I state is Toledo - who has previous experience against teams such as Ohio State. Toledo has a chance in this one, so stay tuned.

8. Duke

The Blue Devils came up short in their drive to repeat their perfect and winless season in 2006. They beat Northwestern in Evanston, IL on Saturday to break one of the longest ongoing losing streaks of BCS level teams. This battle of the egghead allstars resulted in a cerebral 20-14 thriller with a total of 7 points scored in the entire second half. Congratulations none the less to Duke and good luck. They have every chance of climbing back to the top of the futility rankings with a schedule that includes four currently ranked teams. Who would have thought that the November 17 game against Notre Dame could possibly be close?

9. New Mexico State

The other Aggies of the futile top ten managed a victory over nearby Texas El Paso this week. It is good that these two schools play football because there ain't much else to do in that part of the country except run across the bridge into Juarez for some decent tequila. These schools are so close to each other that fans of each school gather along the Texas-New Mexico border to throw rocks at one another. The coaching staffs of both schools watch the festivities to recruit and train quarterbacks.

10. Notre Dame

How unusual is this? Not only are the Irish included in the top ten of college footballs worst, they were shut out against another 0-2 school. One can only imagine the pain in South Bend this week. The Notre Dame recruiting network is melting down and reaching critical mass. The physics majors at ND know exactly what this means and are looking to throw a carbon rod into the smoldering radioactive mass to keep things from exploding. The ND Coaching staff is looking like the best thing to throw into the mess, so stay tuned to see who is still around in two weeks. The last coach to rack up five straight losses gave his final salute to Touchdown Jesus shortly thereafter.

Now that the 2007 season is solidly underway, there are some teriffic games and match ups to enjoy. Will Duke and I-State get back on track to lose on Saturday? Can Syracuse keep an angry and motivated Louisville from squeezing the life out of them? For the answers to these and other important questions of our time, please visit http://firstworst.com

College Sports Collectible - Stash It Away

Image : http://www.flickr.com

College sports collectibles are products available in the market with pictures of sports players or about different teams. There are games which have cards that are filled with colors of popular teams or have the various players on them as logo. These college sports collectibles are considered to be priceless and people go to great extents to preserve them. For many the hobby of collecting sports related cards and books begins when they are very young. Once they develop a passion for a sport or admire a player, they begin to collect pictures, articles, news items, posters and other items related to that person. In schools, children can be noticed forming groups based on their interests in a particular sport or a team. If they are avid football fans, they might collect cards that are available in the market and trade within each other for cards they would love to have. The same applies to baseball fans, they collect the gaming cards and for some it becomes more than a hobby.

Collectibles don't necessarily refer to paper products, but also include clothing and other pieces of jewelery, accessories related to a sport. For the students of Clemson University, their college Tigers football players and basket ball players are what they admire or idolize. And so they might collect products related to these players, such as jerseys, wrist bands, head bands and other gear. Some might buy a pair of shoes worn by a player, or the ball that has the signature of all the players and treasure them. This behavior is common among college students and other fans who enjoy this particular sport or are crazy about this team. There might be girls who like a player in this team, she is likely to collect posters, T shirts, jerseys and everything connected with this team member. Nowadays, one can find sports related collectibles in various stores across the country. There are bed and bath products, cutlery, and other kitchen accessories, watches all of which have the logo, or a player's photo on them. There are families that are devout fans of Michigan University Spartans, they will sport team jerseys when the team is playing a match. They are likely to have flags, posters, pictures, framed art work, spoons, plates all of which sport the team's colors, logo, mascot picture on them.

Just like when a new movie is released, memorabilia related to that movie are released in the market, sports also has a similar market. Although in case of college sports collectible, the products will be in demand for a longer period and made available ahead of matches and through the year. These will also be made available online, and so interested fans can buy them through the Internet. If a parent is passionate about Georgia bulldogs, he might buy his newborn baby clothes, shoes with the team's name or colors on it to show his love for the team. Such is the craze of college sports collectibles.

College Football - If The BCS Championship Game Was Today, Missouri and West Virginia Would Play

Rivalry week in college football had a profound effect on the BCS National Championship Game contenders. For openers, three teams-Missouri, West Virginia and Hawaii-did it right by winning super important games.

No. 3-ranked Missouri (11-1) stopped No. 2-ranked Kansas' (11-1) unbeaten streak at 11 by beating the Jayhawks 36-28 in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate. Missouri led at the half 14-0 and let Kansas back into the game by giving up 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, thinking the game was really over.

No matter, I have carped all season long about the weak schedule Kansas played to run up its 11 wins and now am vindicated when they showed poorly against first-class competition.

Kansas entered the game rated 101st in strength of schedule among 119 Division 1A schools and left the game rated 90th after playing No. 3-ranked Missouri. The Jayhawks, who are BCS bowl bound somewhere, simply got found out.

The Missouri Tigers are now the Big 12 North champs and headed for a showdown with No. 10-ranked South champs Oklahoma for the Big 12 title. Missouri's only loss this year was to Oklahoma in an away game, 41-31, after Missouri allowed the Sooners 18 straight 4th quarter points.

Missouri has not won a Big 12 conference title in 38 years. Should they win they will undoubtedly play in the BCS National Championship Game.

Missouri's junior quarterback Chase Daniel, whose hero is legendary Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre (pronounced Farve), is everything he is cracked up to be and then some.

Daniel was unstoppable against Kansas, going 40 for 49 for 361 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions and now has 4,029 total yards, breaking his own school record.

Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel has insiders here in Washington buzzing as Pinkel was part of Don James' successful Husky teams. Pinkel was the Receivers Coach from 1979 to 1983 and the Offensive Coordinator from 1984 to 1990. Pinkel coached many famous Washington players, including Chris Chandler, Mark Brunell, Billy Joe Hobert, Lincoln Kennedy, Greg Lewis, Hugh Millen, Steve Pelleur, Kevin Gogan and Ed Cunningham.

Don James is the heart and soul of Washington football, a two-time National Coach of the Year who won a national championship in 1991, went to 6 Rose Bowls, won an Orange Bowl title, and was 10-5 in 15 bowl appearances in 18 years as head coach. James is the Dawgfather and has the ring to kiss from the 1991 national championship to prove it.

No. 4-ranked West Virginia (10-1) took care of business by coming down like a ton of bricks on No. 20-ranked Connecticut (9-3), 66-21, scoring 7 touchdowns on the Connecticut Huskies.

No. 14-ranked Hawaii, the only Division 1A team left unbeaten at 11-0, outlasted No. 17-ranked Boise State (10-2), 39-27, to capture the Mountain West title with a perfect 8-0 record.

I have also carped all season long about Hawaii's cupcake schedule and now have seen that the Boise State Broncos, who played another cupcake schedule, are not that good either. I watched a good part of the Hawaii-Boise State match-up and think the Warrior's senior quarterback Colt Brennan could play on much better 1A teams.

Four other Top 25 teams lost when they had an opportunity to win and advance.

No. 1-ranked LSU (10-2) blew it big time by letting Arkansas (8-4) beat them 50-48 in overtime. So much for the Tigers national championship game hopes.

No. 7-ranked Arizona State (9-2) was slapped around by No. 11-ranked USC (9-2), 44-24.

No. 9-ranked Oregon (8-3) was shut out by UCLA (6-5), 16-0, and is now folding faster than a cheap K-Mart deck chair since the Ducks lost their superstar quarterback and offensive leader Dennis Dixon with a torn ACL.

No. 13-ranked Texas (9-3) was upended by Texas A&M (7-5), 38-30, in its rivalry.

Fourteen teams did exactly what they were expected to do: win against their in-state rival without having any measurable affect on the BCS title game:

No. 6-ranked Georgia (10-2) put down Georgia Tech (7-5), 31-17, to gain bragging rights but will not play for the SEC championship. Georgia tied Tennessee for the West Conference title at 6-2 but lost to Tennessee 35-14 so Tennessee advances to the SEC title game against LSU.

No. 8-ranked Virginia Tech (10-2) outscored No. 16-ranked Virginia (9-3) 10-0 in the last quarter to erase the Cavaliers, 33-21.

No. 10-ranked Oklahoma (10-2) slammed Oklahoma State 49-17 to win the Big 12 South title at 6-2 and will face Missouri in the Big 12 title game.

No. 12-ranked Florida (9-3) bombed Florida State (7-5), 45-12.

No. 21-ranked Clemson (9-3) barely nipped South Carolina (6-6) 23-21.

No. 23-ranked Brigham Young (9-2) was behind 3-0 at the half but rebounded to beat Utah (8-4), 17-10, and clinch the Mountain West championship with a perfect 7-0 record.

No. 25-ranked Auburn (8-4) stung Alabama (6-6), 17-10. The Crimson Tide's $4 million coach, Nick Saban, was wondering what happened in his first year debut as the highest paid coach in college football. Alabama fans know what happened, and they are not happy campers.

Bowling Green (8-4) whipped Toledo 37-10.

Mississippi State (7-5) beat Mississippi by a field goal, 17-14.

Florida Atlantic (6-5) outran Florida International (0-11), 55-23.

Louisiana-Monroe (6-6) beat Louisiana-Lafayette 17-11.

Ohio (6-6) outlasted Miami of Ohio 38-29.

Washington State (5-7) outscored Washington 14-7 in the last quarter to beat the Huskies 42-35.

North Carolina (4-8) won in overtime against Duke (1-11), 20-14.

By Sunday night (11-25-07) the new BCS Standings had Missouri 1st, West Virginia 2nd, Ohio State 3rd, Georgia 4th, Kansas 5th and Virginia Tech 6th. Nothing else much matters. If you are wondering, Hawaii is 12th in the BCS Standings. The regular seasons are over for Ohio State, Georgia, Kansas and Virginia Tech.

If the BCS National Championship were played today, Missouri and West Virginia would vie for the title, but there is unfinished business. Missouri will have to beat Oklahoma for the Big 12 title, and West Virginia will have to beat Pittsburgh or all bets are off.

Hawaii must remain 12th in the BCS Standings and beat Washington to qualify for 1 of the 5 BCS bowl games. The unbeaten Warriors can forget about playing in the national championship game until they start playing much better competition.

College Football Week 11 - Southern Cal's 7 Years of Excellence Ends, Stanford Wins, 55 - 21

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It's over for Southern California. Coach Pete Carroll will be dining with some lesser light Hollywood celebrities in the near future.

Gone are the USC streaks of 7 straight BCS bowls, 7 straight 11-win seasons, and 7 straight top-4 AP poll finishes. Gone also is USC's 7-year stranglehold on the Pac-10 Conference title.

After 60 excruciating minutes of watching Stanford's Toby Gerhart-The Cardinal Battering Ram-run all over USC's home field for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns, Pete Carroll and his Trojans were handed their second major trouncing in two weeks. There was no stopping Gerhart as 25th-ranked Stanford (7-3) did a number on the 11th-ranked and soon dropping USC (7-3) Trojans, 55-21. Adding insult to injury, it was USC's 2009 homecoming game.

Just two weeks ago, USC was upset at Oregon 47-20. Saturday's loss to Stanford was the Trojans' worst since a 51-0 drubbing at home against Notre Dame in 1966, 43 years ago.

Pete Carroll had to be bummed out. He lost in November for the first time after 28 straight victories in the toughest month for every college football coach during the season. And for the second time in three weekends, Carroll endured the worst loss of his 9 seasons at USC. The perennial flower that bloomed at USC for 7 consecutive years has now faded.

After leading 28-21 after 3 quarters, Stanford piled it on with 4 touchdowns in the last quarter, just rubbing it in a little bit for past indiscretions by the Trojans. Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh's 2007 team also upset then 2nd-ranked USC 24-23 on the Trojans' same home field.

Harbaugh has made it quite clear that he is sick and tired of USC's past dominance in the Pac-10. Virtually everyone thought that the California Bears would be the team to bring the Trojans down a peg or two, but it was Harbaugh's Cardinal team that has gotten the job done.

Stanford's victory over USC was only 1 of 5 upsets among ranked teams this week. The other 4 were recorded by unranked teams:

North Carolina (7-3), unranked and smarting, won 33-24 at home over No. 12 Miami of Florida (also 7-3) as Coach Butch Davis notched his 3rd consecutive victory over his former program, and made North Carolina bowl eligible for the 2nd straight season.

Central Florida (6-4) handed No. 13 Houston (8-2) its second loss 37-32, closing the door on Cougar quarterback Case Keenum, who had a couple of last-minute rallies in Houston's last 5 wins. The Central Florida Knights rallied at home from a two-touchdown deficit to build a 17-point lead before Keenum threw two late TD passes to make the final score appear closer.

California (7-3) stuck a fork in No. 18 Arizona's (6-3) hopes for a better season as the Bears finally roared again at home, beating the Wildcats 24-16. Rutgers (7-2) was hardly impressed with No. 23 South Florida (6-3) as the Scarlet Knights took the South Florida Bulls to school by shutting them out 31-0. Rutgers forced 4 turnovers, blocked a punt and recorded 7 sacks, and freshman quarterback Tom Savage threw for two touchdowns.

Stanford's upset of Southern Cal was 1 of the 3 great games of the day. The other two involved No. 4 TCU and No. 10 Ohio State.

No. 4 TCU (10-0) remained unbeaten by really making 16th-ranked Utah (8-2) look bad in a 55-28 win. TCU leads the mid-level Mountain West Conference with a 6-0 record. Utah had been running around all season acting like the Utes were something special, and then they arrived at TCU and found out why they are not so special. As if to erase any doubt, TCU led 38-14 at the half.

No. 10 Ohio State (9-2) brought No. 15 Iowa (9-2) into its view as the Buckeyes welcomed the Hawkeyes into their 101,568-seat Horseshoe Stadium before taking the game into overtime and earning a trip to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 13 years. Ohio State last visited the Rose Bowl in 1996 when the Buckeyes were ranked 2nd in the nation after beating Arizona State 20-17.

But back to Saturday's game, which will provide fodder for sports talk radio shows for months to come as neither Ohio State or Iowa would go for a last minute victory when they had the opportunity to do so. The game ended at 24-all after Marvin McNutt threw a 10-yard scoring pass to James Vandenberg.

The Buckeyes had blown a two-touchdown lead in the 4th quarter. The Hawkeyes had the ball at their 33 with 52 seconds and two timeouts left, but chose to run out the clock and send the game into overtime. Ohio State had the ball on its 18 with 2:37 left and multiple timeouts, and didn't try to win it.

Both coaches-Kirk Ferentz of Iowa and Jim Tressel of Ohio State-wanted overtime to get it settled because they did not trust their kickers; Iowa had missed a 22-yard field goal attempt earlier in the game, and Ohio State's kicker had missed from 47 yards out.

When push came to shove, Tressel basically took three runs up the middle for all of 2 yards before letting replacement kicker Devin Barclay come up with the winning 39-yard FG to put the Buckeyes on top, 27-24. The Hawkeyes were unbeaten this year until losing 17-10 at home to Northwestern last week.

Barclay, a 26-year-old former pro soccer player and first-year, walk-on kicker, was forced into duty as a replacement three weeks ago when starter Aaron Pettrey injured his knee.

And now for the expected happenings of week 11. Here are another 8 ranked teams that won home games:

No. 5 Cincinnati (10-0) remained unbeaten by using a field goal advantage to beat a 7-3 West Virginia team 24-21. No. 6 Boise State (10-0) remained unbeaten by easily handling a 7-4 Idaho team 63-25. No. 8 Pittsburgh (9-1) led Notre Dame (6-4) 20-3 after 3 quarters and almost let things get out-of-hand before putting away the Fighting Irish 27-22.

No. 9 LSU (8-2) notched an unspectacular win over Louisiana Tech 24-16. No. 14 Oregon (8-2) ripped Arizona State 44-21. No. 17 Oklahoma State (8-2) was behind 10-7 at the half but beat Texas Tech 24-17. No. 19 Penn State beat Indiana 31-20 despite having 4 first-half turnovers. No. 21 Wisconsin (8-2) took apart a struggling Michigan team 45-24.

Here are another 7 ranked teams that won away games, always tougher than home victories:

No. 1 Florida (10-0) remained unbeaten at the expense of South Carolina, 24-14, as the Gators completed their first perfect (8-0) SEC East title in 13 years. No. 2 Texas (10-0) remained unbeaten by easily kicking around Baylor, 47-14, as Colt McCoy tied the NCAA record for career victories by a starting quarterback with 42 (take just a moment and think about how special the accomplishment was by Colt McCoy).

No. 3 Alabama (10-0) remained unbeaten by dominating Mississippi State, 31-3, and continues to lead the SEC West with a 7-0 mark. No. 7 Georgia Tech (10-1) stomped Duke, 49-10, to clinch a spot in the ACC Conference championship game. No. 20 Virginia Tech (7-3) beat Maryland 36-9. No. 22 BYU (8-2) could only muster a 24-19 victory over a hapless, inept, winless 0-10 New Mexico team. No. 24 Clemson (7-3) whipped North Carolina State 43-23.

Three other games among unranked teams were noteworthy. Temple (8-2) won its 8th consecutive game 56-17 over Akron; Central Michigan (8-2) picked up its 8th win 56-28 over Toledo; Navy (8-3) earned its 8th win by downing Delaware 35-18; and Mississippi (7-3) found a way to penetrate Tennessee's (5-5) defense by scoring 42 points to win 42-17.

Four unranked teams finally became bowl eligible this week, the most surprising of which was the Southern Methodist (6-4) Mustangs, who outlasted UTEP 35-31.

June Jones was 1-11 in this first year coaching last year and now has a bowl-eligible team. People no longer laugh when you use SMU and football in the same sentence. Jones built a juggernaut at mid-level Hawaii using Mouse Davis' run-and-shoot offense, going 75-41 over 9 years, and winning 4 of 6 bowl games. The bottom line on the likeable June Jones-more dangerous than his name would indicate.

The three other teams joining SMU as bowl eligible were Oklahoma, Arkansas and Michigan State. Some people wondered if Oklahoma (6-4) was going to make it this year, but the Sooners finally got the job done by easily beating Texas A&M, 65-10. Arkansas (6-4) took care of a 7-3 Troy team, 56-20; and Michigan State (6-5) was 11 points down to Purdue but won 40-37 on Brett Swenson's 4th field goal with 1:51 left.

Nick Saban - A Great College Football Coach Who Might Bring Alabama Back to Greatness

Nick Saban recently became the University of Alabama football coach by signing the richest contract ever awarded to a college football coach.

His 8-year, $32 million deal with the Crimson Tide has a base salary of $225,000 that will be supplemented by a personal services fee of $3.275 to $3.975 million per year. College football supporters are awash with money for winners who they believe can put their team on top.

Saban's deal does not include a buyout clause if he leaves, but it does cap public appearances at 15 per year (for alumni and booster clubs) that are unrelated to endorsements.

The contract also has incentives that could generate another $650,000 for on-field and academic success with his players. One biggie is $200,000 if he reaches the BCS championship game and escalates to $400,000 if Alabama wins.

Saban also gets a country club membership, two cars, a luxury box at Bryant-Denny Stadium and up to 25 hours of yearly flight time for personal travel in a non-commercial plane.

Ah, it is good to be Nick Saban in Alabama today. Now he must win and win big, something he has been able to do at other college coaching positions.

In his only year as head coach at Toledo he took the Rockets from 6-5 to 9-2 and the Mid-American Conference co-championship.

Saban then went to Michigan State and in five seasons turned the Spartans from a mediocre, continual late-season failure into a 9-2 season that included wins over Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State before he resigned in 1999.

A season earlier, MSU knocked off then No. 1 ranked Ohio State 28-24 at Ohio Stadium and routed highly-ranked Notre Dame before folding later in the season.

If the Big 10 was not tough enough, Saban's next stop was another five seasons with the LSU Tigers in the even tougher, nastier Southeastern Conference.

He chalked up a 10-3 mark and an SEC championship in his second year and topped things off with a 13-1 record in his fourth season (2003) that earned the Tigers a second SEC championship with Saban as well as the BCS national championship title after a 21-14 win over the Oklahoma Sooners.

After two average years trying to get the Miami Dolphins of the NFL in gear, he left to become Alabama's new hope. Saban was able to build a defense with the Dolphins but never really got the offense going, suffering his first losing record as a head coach.

Saban's extended family has football connections. His cousin Lou Saban was a two-time All-Big Ten player at Indiana University and later was head coach for the NFL Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.

Saban played as a defensive back for Don James when James was head coach at Kent State University. James also coached NFL great Jack Lambert and led the Golden Flashes (it may be true) to their only Mid-American Conference title in 1972.

Like Saban, James was a winner. James went on to coach 18 seasons at the University of Washington. He was twice named National College Coach of the Year (1984 and 1991), guided Washington to the National Championship in 1991, took the Huskies to 6 Rose Bowls (winning 4), won the Orange Bowl title in 1985, had a 10-5 bowl game record, and won 22 straight games from 1990 to 1992.

James was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997; Saban will likely be inducted into the same Hall of Fame at some point in the future.

Here is what Saban had to say about James: "Don James was my college coach at Kent State. I guess he had as much of an impact on me as anyone in terms of organization, quality of work, (and) being the best you can be. He's the person that got me (into) coaching."

Saban was a graduate assistant and then defensive assistant for the Kent State University football team.

I have distant connections to Saban and James.

I graduated from Michigan State in 1966 and saw two great years of football before graduating. I remember the 1966 "Game of the Century" between then No. 2 ranked Michigan State and No. 1 ranked Notre dame that ended in a 10-10 tie when Norte Dame decided to settle for a tie rather than go for the victory.

There were 5 All Americans on MSU's 1966 team: fullback Bob Apisa, halfback Clinton Jones, defensive end Charles "Bubba" Smith, wide receiver Gene Washington and rover (linebacker) George Webster.

I remember a game in 1965 when All-American running back Jim Grabowski from Illinois and George Webster were running full steam toward each other and Webster flattened Grabowski. It was one of the greatest tackles I ever witnessed. Grobowski went on the play for the NFL Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Football at MSU then turned to crap until Nick Saban arrived and took the Spartans back to prominence. It was one long drought that lasted from 1967 to 1999.

I relocated to Washington State in 1973 and followed the University of Washington Huskies-and Don James-closer than I did Michigan State during those years. Here in Washington Don James is affectionately known as the "Dawgfather" and treated with as much respect as was Don Corleone in The Godfather movie.

You will not meet a better college football coach or person than Don James, he is always about honesty, integrity and doing the right thing.

My expectation is that Nick Saban will bring Alabama football back to its rightful place. I have been a Crimson Tide fan since the day "Joe Willie" Namath walked onto the Alabama campus.

I am also fired up for the football season to start as Michigan State has a new head coach, a guy named Mark Dantonio who is serious about defense and will instill the kind of discipline and winning attitude MSU needs.

The days of the country club atmosphere are over at Michigan State. Players will either get with it or get gone. Dantonio will not accept losing and neither will Saban. Look out SEC, here comes Nick Saban.

Duke Blue Devils College Football Tickets

The Duke Blue Devils college football team has long been a source of pride for the athletics division, as well as for the students of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Though Duke's football team was first set up back in 1895, it was only formally established after World War I, when Duke's Board of Trustees voted to lift the 25-year ban on football in the campus. Since then, the Duke Blue Devils has been making its presence strongly felt in the collegiate football scene. In fact, Duke's football program has been consistently cited over the years as one of the most successful of all college football programs. It has also been cited for 12 years as one of the top-ranking schools which graduate nearly all of their football players, an achievement Duke is also proud to have for its players in the other sports.

The Blue Devils have been playing at the Wallace Wade Stadium in the Duke University campus since 1929. Once known as the Duke Stadium, it was renamed in 1967 after Wallace Wade, the legendary Hall of Famer and Blue Devils football team coach who steered the team to victory during his tenure from 1930-1950.

Important Moments And Accomplishments

The Duke Blue Devils football team has won a total of 17 conference titles, 10 of which were won under the current Atlantic Coast Conference. (ACC) The team won its last title in 1989; this which would place Duke as 4th among the 12-member ACC teams with the most number of championship titles.

It addition to these championships, Duke has also seen 53 of its players over the years become part of the prestigious College Football All-America Team.

Quarterbacks in the Current Roster

Currently, the team's quarterbacks are composed of Zack Asack, Mike Capetto, Thaddeus Lewis, and Sean Renfree.

Recent News

Under the helm of Coach David Cutcliffe, (who has been the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils football team for a year now) the Blue Devils this season are vying for a shot, at least, for a bowl appearance. The team has long been hungry to make an appearance in any of the college bowl tournaments since it last had that chance in 1994. So far this season, with an even record of 4 wins and 4 losses, hopes are still high for the Dukes in attaining the dream of a national title which has eluded them for so long. As the rest of the regular season will be tough for the Dukes, the team is striving to fight the odds to get a crack for a slot in a college bowl appearance which many Blue Devil fans are eagerly watching and hoping would happen. As Cutcliffe reminded his team earlier this season, this is now the time they have to fight like crazy to stay alive. Any Blue Devil fan would not want to miss these crucial moments for the team and witness the way the fight to stay alive and make history once again.

College Football Picks of the Year!

Football is truly the National American sport. Everyone loves it, from your best friend, to your uncle. Even your pet loves to join in the fun during football night with you and the rest of the family.

College Football games are just as famous and exciting as its pro brother, the NFL games. The college football season is starting in less than a month away, and everyone is excited. Since September is fast approaching, you may have started placing your bets as early as now. College football picks is a favorite topic, whether you're an amateur or a professional bettor. You usually support and bet on your college's team, or if you are a serious gambler, get college football handicapping services for game predictions and insider information. These services are plenty and not hard to find in the net, thus it is obvious that there is great demand for them.

If you prefer to not spend a dime for these services, here are the top predicted college football picks of the year, based on their conditions from the previous season, present coaches and training, and their outgoing and incoming players.

1. The Florida Gators

Of course, the Florida Gators is expected to make it big this year. The Florida Gators were the defending champions of last year, and is expected to be even better this year. This year, the Gators will return 19 of its previous 22 starters. Brandon Spikes is coming back, so this team is expected to have a solid and strong defense this year, probably among the best of the nation.

2. The Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns will return 14 starters, but there are a lot of questions to address this year. Can they find a solid replacement for McCoy so he doesn't have to run? Can they replace Cosby and Shipley? These are questions they should address to assure of a ticket to the championships.

3. The Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners still has Sam Bradford, a great offensive player, but the team lost four of five starters on the offensive line. Even if the team has a great defensive line and solid linebackers, losing four of five starters will probably make quite a dent in this team.

4. The USC Trojans

This power team has amazing offense, returning with nine starters, however the defensive only returns with two starters. USC may have lost a lot of talent yet again, but this won't be a problem for USC Trojans is known to never go short when reloading on talent. Let us wait and see.

5. The Georgia Bulldogs

A ton of starters will return on both the offensive and defensive, which is good news. Hopefully, if Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno stay this season, the Georgia Bulldogs will make a good competitor this season.

These are the best college football picks, the teams most likely to make it to the championships, although college football is a surprising and unpredictable game. Who knows who'll make it to the championships? Learn to love the game, and the surprises that go with it!

College Football Tickets For Sale - Watch For False Tickets

College football is almost here people. If you are a massive college football fan, then you are already aware of what the season has in store. However, you also know that there are people out there who are trying to get over on people's excitement out there. What I mean is that there are people online and offline who are selling bad college football tickets to people who are looking for deals. There are some clues that I will share with you to make sure that you don't get yourself in trouble with these people.

If you are going to search for college football tickets online, you will need to understand that you are going to have to be realistic with your purchase. You cannot always expect to get anything for deep discounts that are next to nothing. If you ever run into anyone promising this, run from them as fast as possible. Let me help identify how to spot a ticket scammer online.

1. If you visit a website like Craigslist and the person who you are communicating with doesn't give you any information about himself or herself in the area. It doesn't matter if the person is down the street from you. You will need to make sure that you are dealing with a person who you can visit locally and get the tickets physically from.

2. If you are going to get the tickets offline, you will need to make sure that you are not buying tickets from someone at the game. The question you need to ask yourself is why a person at the game would be giving or selling the tickets after purchasing them at the game.

These are two of the methods that you need to look out for when you are searching for tickets online and offline. You can visit my blog for more information on tickets as well as resources for tickets.

College Football - Washington Huskies Led Nation in One Critical Category - Strength of Schedule

If you ask a Husky fan or rabid booster to describe Washington's recently completed football season in 3 words the answer might be "another losing season." In 2 words it might be "lousy coaching" or "terrible defense" or "stupid mistakes." My description in 2 words would be "Locker" and "schedule." Schedule would be strength of schedule. The Huskies ended their season as the No. 1-rated team in strength of schedule (difficulty of opponent) among the NCAA's 242 Division 1A and 1AA teams.

With a 4-9 season record, some fans might say, "So what?" While it is true that playing the toughest schedule in the country did not win Washington any more games, it did provide the one ingredient the Huskies need most to improve more next year: experience against quality opponents.

In effect, a lot of inexperienced Huskies got up-close, personal lessons in what it takes to win at the highest level. They, according to the most recent BCS Standings:

1) Upset No. 24-ranked Boise State 24-10 at home.

2) Led No. 1-ranked Ohio State 7-3 at the half before losing 33-14 at home.

3) Led No. 7-ranked Southern Cal 17-14 at the half before losing 27-24 at home.

4) Led No. 11-ranked Arizona State 17-13 at the half before losing 44-20 on the road.

5) Led No. 10-ranked Hawaii 21-0 after 10 minutes and 28-21 at the half before losing 35-28 on the road.

The inexperienced, talent-challenged Huskies never did really learn how to lock down and finish off an opponent. It was not the offense that let them down, they averaged more than 4 touchdowns a game; it was the defense that most often collapsed in the second half.

Among 119 Division 1A schools, the Washington defense was ranked 94th in Scoring Defense (Poor), 102nd in Total Defense (Poor), 89th in Rushing Defense (Poor), 99th in Pass Defense (Poor) and 99th in Pass Efficiency Defense (Poor).

Name calling is never nice, however, the Husky defensive secondary could not cover their grandmother on their best day. Note to Coach Ty Willingham: Recruit and offer scholarships to players with speed. You cannot coach slow.

If God did not give you speed, you cannot make players faster by coaching them to death. They are already dead, dead slow in a fast player's game. If the entire Husky defensive secondary were all seniors and gone next year, Washington would do no worse. Speed kills in football. If the defensive staff cannot recognize speed, have them watch NFL films of Randy Moss separating from defenders.

Which brings me to Locker, Jake Locker, as in Washington's redshirt freshman quarterback. Locker is a NFL quality running back with size, strength and speed right now. He just happens to play quarterback. Running is all about instinct and speed. Passing is about arm strength, quick release, patience, presence and proper technique. Passing is so much more complicated than running; no wonder Locker is so impressive running rather than passing. I believe Locker will improve his accuracy and touch in passing, Lord knows he has the arm strength.

How good is Locker? He was just named the Pac 10 Conference Freshman of the Year. Locker broke the Husky and Pac 10 record for rushing yards by a quarterback, finishing the year with 986 yards and 13 touchdowns (also a Husky QB record). He also set a new Husky freshman record for most yards passing with 2,062. Unless injured, he will be playing on Sundays in the NFL.

Ty Willingham's Washington Husky recruits for next year include 5-star Kavario Middleton (rated No. 2 nationally as a tight end), and 4-star recruits Craig Noble (DT), Senio Kelemete (OT), Drew Schaefer (OT), Jermaine Kearse (WR) and Cody Burns (WR). Washington has the 18th best recruiting class in the country, according to Scout.com and Dawgman.com.

Despite a 3-year record of 11-25, it was announced today that Ty Willingham will return as the Husky head coach next year. Some fans and boosters wanted Willingham gone, others loved that he is staying on to finish what he started when he signed a 5-year contract. Can Washington go from a 4-9 record this year to a 9-4 record next year? Only time will tell.

One thing is for sure: Eight of the Huskies' 12 opponents next season are playing bowl games this year-Brigham Young, Oregon, Oklahoma, California, Oregon State, Southern Cal, Arizona State and UCLA. Their other 4 opponents include Stanford, Arizona, Notre Dame and Washington State. They better be better or the odds say Ty Willingham and his assistant coaches will be job hunting.

College Football - Only 8 Teams Now Vie for BCS Title Game, Sagarin Reveals a New View of the Rivals

Following college football's 12th weekend of play, eight teams now become harder to ignore-Louisiana Tech, Kansas, West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio State, Arizona State, Hawaii and Boise State. All have only 1 loss except Kansas and Hawaii remain unbeaten.

Sunday night's (11-18-07) new AP Top 25 Poll showed LSU ranked 1st, Kansas 2nd, Missouri 3rd, West Virginia 4th, Ohio State 5th, Arizona State 7th, Hawaii 14th and Boise State 17th.

Monday's (11-19-07) new BCS Standings showed LSU 1st, Kansas 2nd, West Virginia 3rd, Missouri 4th, Ohio State 5th, Arizona State 6th, Hawaii 15th and Boise State 19th.

The AP Poll by sports writers and broadcasters has no affect on who will play in the national championship game.

The BCS standings determine the participants based upon a complicated formula from 3 components: the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Harris Interactive College Football Poll, and an average of 6 computer rankings, including the Sagarin Ratings. Each component counts as one-third of a team's overall BCS score in the BCS Standings.

All of that sounds pretty boring and it is, but do not underestimate the importance of the BCS Standings because millions of dollars are at stake. It is not just the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans on Jan. 8, 2008 that generates huge payouts to the teams and conferences involved.

It is also 4 other official BCS Bowl Games as well: the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 2008, the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2008, the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2, 2008 and the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3, 2008.

The total payout from the 5 BCS games this year will be $85 million and the total economic impact on the 5 hosting cities is estimated at more than $1.2 billion.

The bottom line is that at least 10 teams in the top BCS Standings will play in these games. The champions of the 6 major NCAA conferences-the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Pacific 10 (Pac 10) and Southeastern Conference (SEC)-are guaranteed a spot in 1 of the 5 BCS games. The other slots are up for grabs under a complicated set of qualifications.

One of those qualifications is that a team outside of the 6 major conferences that finishes in the Top 12 of the final BCS Standings automatically qualifies.

Knowing this salient fact you can better understand why Hawaii (at 15th place) and Boise State (at 19th place) are so upset about their current BCS Standings-neither is in the Top 12 despite Hawaii's 10-0 record and Boise State's 10-1 record.

Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Karl Benson spent most of the rest of his weekend trying to convince "everyone and his dog Spot" about the great win Hawaii had against Nevada, currently rated 97th by Sagarin among 119 Division 1A schools. Hawaii finally won 28-26 on a 45-yard field goal with 11 seconds left.

Given the polls and the BCS Standings no one was listening or believing a word Benson had said.

Given the 8 teams left in the hunt for a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, Hawaii and Boise State are bit players with no real chance at all. Thankfully, the two collide this weekend when Boise State travels to Hawaii for a showdown.

After the game, one team will rise in the BCS Standings and the other is likely to take an even greater drop out of sight and out of mind.

Both Hawaii and Boise State are great teams with great records and they both will get more attention when they start playing some decent competition. Sagarin rates Hawaii's strength of schedule (the quality of its opponents) at 153rd and Boise State's at 122nd.

Considering there are only 119 Division 1A teams you better believe these two teams have feasted on inferior talent at best and deserve what they get.

Of the 6 remaining teams, who along with Hawaii and Boise State are either unbeaten of have only 1 loss, at least 5 of the 6 have played considerably better competition in their quest to be in the national title game.

Arizona State (ranked 6th by the BCS at 9-1) has the best Sagarin strength of schedule rating at 26th. LSU (ranked 1st by the BCS at 10-1) is 27th, West Virginia (ranked 3rd by the BCS at 9-1) is 42nd, Missouri (ranked 4th by the BCS at 10-1) is 47th, Ohio State (ranked 5th by the BCS at 11-1) is 53rd, and bringing up the rear is Kansas (ranked 2nd by the BCS at 11-0) at 101st among the 119 Division 1A schools.

Has Kansas been playing a weak schedule to put together 11 straight wins? Yes. Kansas may end up playing the BCS National Championship Game and winning, but there is no mistake that Kansas has played an inferior schedule compared to its BCS competition.

Should Hawaii and Boise State be ranked where they are in the BCS? Probably not, given the level of their competition. Is Kansas overrated? Probably so. All three can make me more of a believer should they continue to win against better competition.

So I guess I am begging the question: Who has played the toughest schedule so far this season? Try the Washington Huskies, who are 3-7 on the year.

I seriously doubt that Kansas, Hawaii or Boise State would have the records they do if they had all played Ohio State, UCLA, Southern California, Arizona State and Oregon-all in their prime-as Washington has done.

That is why Washington is No. 1 in strength of schedule nationally and Kansas is 101st, Boise State 122nd and Hawaii 153rd.

Kansas faces Missouri this Saturday in a Big 12 North Division showdown. The winner will likely play Oklahoma or Texas from the South Division for the Big 12 title and a BCS berth to somewhere.

Boston College Eagles College Football Tickets Available

The Boston College Eagles college football team was established in 1892, when the college agreed to set up the team upon the request of Joseph O'Connell and John Drum, the latter becoming the team's first coach. Since its inception the team has proven its worth as a formidable opponent, having won many of its matches among its long-standing rivals, the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Notre Dame. The team has also been ranked high in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) standings in recent years

In addition, the Boston College Eagles have been ranked among the country's best among the college football teams for academic achievement, having garnered the highest mark possible in the polls for any college football team's Academic Progress Rate. (APR) In addition, Boston College has been proud of its players from the team's roster through the years that eventually made significant contributions to professional football; one of these players that stood out and made the Tigers a competitive team is Doug Flutie, who has been regarded as a legend in Boston College football history.

Important Moments And Accomplishments

Throughout its history, the Boston College Eagles have appeared in a record of 19 post-season bowl appearances. The team last bowl appearance was on 2007's Champs Sports Bowl when it defeated the Michigan State Spartans for the title. This victory would also mark the Eagles' 8th straight bowl victory, a winning streak record which by itself is unprecedented in collegiate football history.

In addition, Boston College has also managed to snag a conference title when it was a member of the Big East Conference. Since becoming a member of the ACC, the team has managed to win the conference's Atlantic Division championship in 2007 and be listed as one of the Top 10 college football teams by the Associated Press for that year.

Quarterbacks in the Current Roster

Currently, the team's quarterbacks are composed of Alexander Atiyeh, Codi Boek, Chris Crane, Dominic Davis, Chris Johnson, Nick Loury, John Lowell, and Justin Tuggle.

Recent News

The Boston College Eagles has yet to win an ACC championship; this season, the team is looking forward to clinch its first conference title under the ACC. For Eagles Coach Jeff Jagodzinski and the players, this season so far is looking good for them. With an impressive record so far of 5 wins and only 1 loss during this current college football season, the team is optimistic in securing a slot in the conference slot and eventually win the title as well. For the fans of the Boston College Eagles, any home game of the team this season is certainly something to look forward to. And with the way things are going right now for the Eagles, the next remaining games will be interesting to watch for those who would like to see how far and how successful they will go in their dream for the title

Florida State Seminoles College Football Tickets

While the Florida State Seminoles college football team was officially established in 1947, the tradition of football in the Florida State University (FSU) began much earlier when a football team was set up in Florida State College, the precursor of the FSU until it was disbanded in 1905 when the college became an all-girls school. Despite the 42-year hiatus in collegiate football, FSU's passion for the sport has not diminished throughout that time. This enthusiasm has been reflected in the team's performance as one of the top teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference. (ACC)

Named after the Florida-based American Indian tribe, the Seminoles have been playing at the Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium, located at the FSU campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Nicknamed "The Doak," the stadium was named after former FSU president Doak Campbell. The stadium field was named after Bobby Bowden, longtime (and current) coach of the Seminoles who is legendary in his own right as he steered the team to a number of memorable victories throughout his 32-year career. It is also interesting to note that this stadium is also the largest among all the football stadiums used by the ACC member schools.
